A viral image claims to show an "antifa debit card" used to fund protest-related crimes. The card is not real; Germany-based political activists, Aktivistmuss and HoGeSatzbau, told PolitiFact they created it for "fun" in 2018.
Their satirical website, HoGeSatzbau, sold the card, but it was not functional. Now, HoGeSatzbau only sells a credit card-sized sticker with the same design. It can be adhered to functional bank cards.
The card in the photo is the original version of the non-functional plastic card.
Photos of a purported antifa debit card are emerging on social media as one of the latest conspiracies related to the Los Angeles protests against federal immigration raids. This isn’t a real debit card, nor is the spoof new.
Some X users are sharing a photo of a card that has the word "ANTIFAmily" at the top. Text in the photo said: "Ever seen an Antifa debit card that can automatically be funded after looting, rioting, and gang stalking? Here’s what it looks like."
"Antifa Debit card!!! Who is funding this?" said a June 9 post sharing the photo.
Antifa, short for "anti-fascist," is a loosely affiliated coalition of left-wing activists in opposition to authoritarian and far-right causes. The movement has been around for decades, but saw a resurgence since the first election of Donald Trump in 2016.
It’s not the first time photos of this card have spread on X. The photo also circulated during the demonstrations following the May 2020 murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer. Reuters fact-checkers in 2020 reported that the card originated from a German website called Hooligans Gegen Satzbau, HoGeSatzbau for short, and was "meant as a joke."
Similarly, Snopes labeled the plastic card as "satire" in their 2020 fact-check.

We reached out to an email listed on the HoGeSatzbau website for more details about the card.
Self-described inventors of the ANTIFAmily card, "Aktivistmuss/HoGeSatzbau," replied to PolitiFact, saying "we have been selling the card since 2018 as a pure merchandise product — without any real function."
The creators originally sold a plastic, non-functional version of the "ANTIFAmily" card, which they say they invented for "fun." Images currently circulating on X show that original plastic card.
HoGeSatzbau no longer sells the plastic version of the ANTIFAmily card. Instead, the design is available as a credit card-sized sticker that can be adhered to any functional bank card. It costs 2.99 euros, or about $3.45.
"ANTIFA is short for antifascism, and everyone should be ANTIFA. Accordingly, our card is, of course, part and expression of that," said the email from Aktivistmuss/HoGeSatzbau.
The HoGeSatzbau website is satirical, and there are signs of that throughout the page. The ANTIFAmily card website lists "basic," "international" and "platinum" cards available, promising "satirefaction." "Benefits" for the international card include daily Vitamin C dosages.
"Enlightenment, satire, opinion, attitude," reads the bio for the "Aktivistmuss" Instagram account, according to Deepl’s German to English translation services. A video in German about the "ANTIFAmily" card is pinned on the page.
An X post claims to show an image of an "antifa debit card" that can "automatically be funded after looting, rioting and gang stalking."
The card in the photo is a non-functional plastic merchandise item created by Germany-based activists in 2018 and intended as satire.
They now only sell a credit card-sized sticker version. These can be adhered to credit and debit cards, thus retaining their functions.
There is no evidence of an ANTIFAmily card that has legitimate purchasing power.
We rate the claim False.
